Speaking of authentic manhood and identity, what are you doing to be truthful with yourself?  Where are you learning what it means to be a Catholic Man and how to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ?  Are you connecting with other local men about the challenges you face in the workplace and at home from a Catholic perspective?  Is Jesus Christ the center of your daily life?  Are you believing the lie that your identity is what you do for a living, instead of who you are as a man of God?  These are the thoughts and questions that all of us men have during the seasons of life and desire to answer.  So, answer this … what would you do without CMCS?

Vision: To Foster Catholic Men's Spirituality in Chicago Southland
Note:   This is a blog series on The Ten Commandments, (unless Bishop Perry has something to say in-between) and excerpts from the Catholic Catechism on how this relates to 'Living the Goodness of a Catholic Man'.

Part of the CMCS mission is teaching the fundamentals of the Catholic Faith:  We all have our vices and temptations, and they all come down to how we view and practice the basic teachings of the faith as a Catholic man.

I hope this blog series will help you reflect on both the commandments and the Catechism so that you may be renewed to grow more in holiness as a Catholic man.

PS. Thank you to the men who have let us know how helpful this blog series has been for them. Remember, the fastest way to success is to replace bad habits with good habits.

You Shall Not Bear False Witness
Against Your Neighbor

The best way to build trust with others, is to be truthful with transparency.

When we rationalize, or cloud things over because we are afraid how others will respond to us, then are we being true to ourselves?

If we don't know who we are, then how can we expect to be transparent with others, to trust the person they think we are.

The Eighth Commandment: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

2464 The eighth commandment forbids misrepresenting the truth in our relations with others. This moral prescription flows from the vocation of the holy people to bear witness to their God who is the truth and wills the truth. Offenses against the truth express by word or deed a refusal to commit oneself to moral uprightness: they are fundamental infidelities to God and, in this sense, they undermine the foundations of the covenant.

2504 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Ex 20:16). Christ's disciples have "put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness" (Eph 4:24).
2505 Truth or truthfulness is the virtue which consists in showing oneself true in deeds and truthful in words, and guarding against duplicity, dissimulation, and hypocrisy.
2506 The Christian is not to "be ashamed of testifying to our Lord" (2 Tim 1:8) in deed and word. Martyrdom is the supreme witness given to the truth of the faith.
2507 Respect for the reputation and honor of persons forbids all detraction and calumny in word or attitude.
2508 Lying consists in saying what is false with the intention of deceiving one's neighbor.
2509 An offense committed against the truth requires reparation.
2510 The golden rule helps one discern, in concrete situations, whether or not it would be appropriate to reveal the truth to someone who asks for it.
2511 "The sacramental seal is inviolable" (CIC, can. 983 # 1). Professional secrets must be kept. Confidences prejudicial to another are not to be divulged.
2512 Society has a right to information based on truth, freedom, and justice. One should practice moderation and discipline in the use of the social communications media.
2513 The fine arts, but above all sacred art, "of their nature are directed toward expressing in some way the infinite beauty of God in works made by human hands. Their dedication to the increase of God's praise and of his glory is more complete, the more exclusively they are devoted to turning men's minds devoutly toward God" (SC 122).

Bishop Perry says ” We believe Jesus Christ set’s the tone and the description for authentic manhood.  The Gospels offer the outline and formation for manly maturity and the carrying out of responsibility as a single man, as a married man, family man, widow and for a man’s last days as he prepares to meet his Maker!  A man can’t go wrong with taking on the task of the Christian lifestyle “.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.
